Biogeographic distribution

Calcinus guamensisis a tropical coastal hermit crab. It seems to have a rather wide spread distribution, it has been documented in following areas:

  • Mariana Islands (Wooster 1984), this is where the species was first described     
  • Indonesia (Morgan 1991)
  • Cocos islands (Morgan 1991)        
  • Christmas island (Morgan 1991)        
  • Taiwan (Poupin & McLaughlin 1998)        
  • French Polynesia (Poupin & McLaughlin 1998)        
  • Lord Howe Island (Poupin et al. 1996)
  • Northern Territory, Australia (Poupin et al. 1996)        
  • Queensland coastline (Poupin et al. 1996)
  • Western Australia coastline (Poupin et al. 1996)        
  • Hawaii (Poupin et al. 2003)
  • Bonin Islands (Shih & Yu 1995)        
  • Southern Japan (Miyake 1956), it is thought that Miyake (1956) confused Calcinus guamensis with Calcinus latens      
  • Vietnam (Forest 1958), it is though that Forest(1958) confused Calcinus guamensis with Calcinus vachoni
